Details of the Mavic Cosmic Ultimate T Disc Carbon wheels

The rim is based on a 100% carbon, 40mm high and 25mm wide NACA aero rim profile, for which 12K carbon fibers are laid over a super-stiff foam core. This 100% carbon construction results in an incredibly light weight! With 20 ultra-slim aero spokes and extra tall, narrow carbon hub flanges, it actually and demonstrably offers aerodynamic benefits. It’s also ultra-stiff, thanks to spokes made of unidirectional carbon fibers that don’t stretch. They run continuously from one side of the rim to the other – with R2R technology, every two are replaced by a single spoke, which also doesn’t need to be firmly anchored to the hub. This also increases the stiffness of the wheel.

The rear wheel is asymmetrical to optimise the spoke angle and allow for a more balanced spoke tension – this way, the wheel remains perfectly stiff even under the highest lateral forces, for example in the sprint to the finish or during attacks on the mountain. At the rear wheel, the Instant Drive 360 freewheel ensures lightning-fast frictional locking and lowest friction losses.
