High-tech carbon wheel
A carbon cross-country rear wheel costs significantly more than an aluminum one, but feedback from many racers teaches Mavic that the performance advantage is often not worth the big bucks.
When developing the Crossmax Pro Carbon, the objective was therefore that it had to be much lighter, but also laterally stiffer than a wheel made of aluminum – with identical impact resistance and, most importantly, with so much vertical compliance that he has the legendary driving characteristics for which the name Crossmax exemplifies.
So Mavic took its exclusive finite element simulation software to the extreme to find a carbon fiber layup that would give the rim the best possible balance of sought-after properties. Mavic’s engineers wanted the wheels to work with the most commonly ridden XC tire widths (2.10-2.35″). So resulted for the rear wheel a 23 mm (inside) wide rim profile for optimal power transmission and acceleration. Full UST Tubeless compatibility guarantees better traction, puncture protection and ease of use. The rim is sealed with a very special rim tape. An asymmetrical rim bed provides more balanced spoke tension (left / right). And 24 butted steel spokes hit the sweet spot between lateral stiffness and vertical compliance.
At just 790 grams, the Crossmax Pro Carbon rear wheel satisfies the desires of race pros who regularly ride it to the podium of World Cup races.
The rear wheel is compatible with 12×148 mm Boost thru axles.
- The Crossmax Pro Carbon rear wheel uses the new freewheel generation called is used – it results in a perfect hub: low weight, minimal friction, fast frictional connection, high axle stiffness and enormous durability. And if maintenance or conversion to another axle standard should be necessary, this is even easier than ever without tools.
- – Universal Standard for Tubeless Tires. UST technology improves traction, control and ride comfort while reducing inertia and puncture risk.
- (Qualité de Roulements Mavic Auto) – Mavic’s latest bearing innovation. These industrial bearings (internal clearance: C3) are of course double sealed. Their bearing clearance is automatically adjusted to guarantee permanently smooth running without any play.
